Registering Your HVAC Product Warranty

When you install new HVAC equipment, it usually comes with a manufacturer’s warranty. What many homeowners don’t realize is that the full coverage often depends on one simple step: registration. It’s a simple step that is quick to do, easy to overlook, and can make a big difference if your system ever needs a repair.

Most HVAC manufacturers offer two levels of coverage:

  • A base warranty that applies automatically
  • An extended warranty that requires registration

By registering your equipment, you can often extend coverage on major components up to 12 years, though 10 years is most common. Without it, you may only have the shorter warranty—usually as little as 5 years. That difference can mean significant out-of-pocket costs if something fails down the road.

Timing is important. Most manufacturers require registration within 60 to 90 days of installation. Miss that window, and the extended coverage usually isn’t available. If you’ve recently built a home or had a system installed, it’s worth confirming this sooner rather than later.

Having the right information ready makes registration fast and frustration-free:

You can usually find this on the equipment itself or in your installation paperwork. If anything is unclear, it’s better to double-check than enter the wrong details.

The process is usually straightforward and only takes a few minutes:

  1. Go to the manufacturer’s website (see common links below)
  2. Find the warranty registration page
  3. Enter your equipment details
  4. Submit the form and save your confirmation

If your home has multiple systems (for example, a furnace and AC), you may need to register each one, possibly with multiple manufacturers. If you’re unsure about what equipment you have installed, just give us a call! We’ll be happy to help identify each product and its information.

If you know your equipment brand, you can start here:

This comes up a lot—especially with newly built homes. Sometimes the installer or builder handles registration, but not always. And paperwork doesn’t always make it to the homeowner. The easiest way to check is to go through the registration process. Many manufacturer sites will let you know if the product has already been registered.

Warranty registration isn’t complicated, but it’s one of those things that’s easy to forget. Taking a few minutes now can help protect your investment for years to come—and give you peace of mind if something goes wrong.
